12 Effective Chair Exercises for Better Health
Regular exercise can help you stay active as you get older. It can maintain your strength and flexibility. Additionally, it can help prevent deconditioning, heart disease, osteoporosis, and other health issues that can accompany ageing.

- Continue with the other leg.
- Lift five times with each leg.
Ankle stretch

- Straighten your left leg with your foot off the ground while sitting up straight and gripping the chair’s side.
- Point your toes away from you while keeping your leg straight and elevated.
- Point your toes in your own direction.
- Try doing two sets of five stretches for each foot.
Seated leg extensions

- Sit with your legs hip-width apart and both feet on the ground.
- Move your butt in the direction of the front of the chair.
- Maintain a straight back and pulled shoulders.
- Lift one leg slowly until it is parallel to the floor, or as nearly as possible.
- After a brief moment of holding, return your leg to the floor.
- Perform ten reps on a single leg.
- Next, move to the other leg.
Heel raises

- Sit with your legs hip-width apart and both feet on the ground.
- Raise both feet’ heels as high off the ground as you can without experiencing any pain.
- Hold the rest of your body motionless while keeping your toes on the ground.
- Put your heels down on the floor.
- Do this ten times.
Toe raises

- Sit with your legs hip-width apart and both feet on the ground.
- Raise both of your feet’ toes as high off the ground as you can without experiencing any pain.
- Hold the rest of your body motionless while keeping your heels on the ground.
- Bring your toes down to the floor.
- Do this ten times.
Thigh squeeze

- Sit with your legs hip-width apart and both feet on the ground.
- Move your butt in the direction of the front of the chair.
- Put your cushion or ball between your knees.
- Squeeze your knees together while using your thigh muscles.
- Hold for 5 seconds.
- Do this ten times.
Arm raise

- Sit with your legs hip-width apart and both feet on the ground.
- Maintain a straight back and look front.
- Place your hands so that the thumbs are pointing up.
- Raise both arms to shoulder height at a 45-degree angle. The objective is to raise your arms midway between your side and directly in front of you.
- Lower and repeat for ten repetitions.
Side bend stretch

- Sit with your legs hip-width apart and both feet on the ground.
- Lift your right arm straight above your head.
- Bend as far to the left as is comfortable while keeping your feet firmly planted and your buttocks securely in place.
- Let go and return to a straight posture.
- Do this five times.
- Bend to the right and raise your left arm to repeat on the opposite side.
Seated Oblique Crunch

- Place your feet level on the floor, shoulder-width apart, and sit in the centre of the chair with your back straight and tall.
- Put your fingertips behind your head and extend your elbows to the sides.
- Bring your right knee up to your right elbow, crunch your abdomen towards the right side, and shift your weight to the left leg.
- Return to the starting position by lowering your right leg.
- Bring your left leg up to your left elbow as you switch sides.
- That is one rep.
Seated Jacks

- Sit near the chair’s edge, with your spine straight and tall, away from the chair’s back, and your feet flat on the floor.
- Lift your arms to create a goalpost.
- Your thumbs should be directly at your nose when you close your arms and pull your elbows close together.
- Open your arms to the sides and step your feet out to the sides in a jumping jack action. At this point, your arms will be in the goalpost position.
- To get back to the starting posture, squeeze your glute muscles and your shoulder blades together.
- That’s one rep.
