Low Impact Aerobic Exercise

What is Low Impact Aerobic Exercise?

Look no further if you’re looking for a low-impact workout routine. With our 20-minute low-impact cardio circuit, we’ve removed all the unknowns and made it suitable for everyone, including those with aching knees, hips, or bodies.

The six exercises listed below should be completed in one minute each, with each one ending immediately after the allotted time.

Rest for a minute after finishing each of the six exercises in succession, and then repeat the circuit. Do this three times for a low-impact, butt-kicking aerobic workout.

Benefits of Low-Impact Aerobic Exercise

  • Joint Protection: lowers the strain on your body’s joints, which makes it perfect for people who are healing from injuries or have joint pain.
  • Cardiovascular Health: properly increases your heart rate to strengthen your heart and increase your stamina.
  • Accessibility: Many low-impact workouts may be performed anywhere and call for little to no specialised equipment.
  • Weight Management: These exercises are still a good way to burn calories and help people lose weight.

Examples of low-impact aerobic exercise

1. Low-impact jumping jacks

Low-impact jumping jacks are a fantastic warm-up activity that will get your muscles moving and your heart rate up. Exaggerating your arm motions will help you burn as many calories as possible.

To begin moving:

  1. Stand with your arms at your sides to begin.
  2. While stepping out with your right foot, raise your arms above your head. As you perform this action, maintain your weight in your right foot.
  3. Get back to where you were before.
  4. Step out with your left foot right away. Once more, raise your arms above your head while maintaining your left foot’s weight.

2. Skaters

Finish this move to channel a speed skater. Even though the low-impact version does not include the jump, it still requires effort.

To begin moving:

  1. With your right leg behind and across your torso, begin in a curtsy lunge position with both legs bent. The right arm should be comfortably bent at your side for balance, while the left arm should be straight down.
  2. To stand, push off the left leg, bring the right leg forward, then swing the left leg back and across while swapping arms. Work fast, but don’t jump to keep the low-impact strategy.

3. Squat to jab

Boxing and bodyweight squats will have you bobbing and weaving for low-impact success.

To begin moving:

  1. To begin, stand with your arms at your sides and your feet slightly wider than shoulder-width apart.
  2. Make sure your legs are out, your butt is back, and your chest is up as you squat down.
  3. Get to your feet, then use both arms to deliver a cross-body blow.
  4. Up back into a squat, up to your feet, and punch.

4. Standing oblique crunch

As a precaution, we had to do some core work as well. For optimum impact, make sure your core is used and the action is controlled.

To begin moving:

  1. To begin, place your feet shoulder-width apart and stand with your elbows out to the side, your arms bent, and your hands on the back of your head.
  2. Bend to your right side and bring your elbow down while simultaneously raising your right knee to touch to start the exercise.
  3. Go back to where you were before. On the left side, follow the same procedures.

5. Lateral shuffle

Strengthening your muscles in both the frontal and sagittal (side-to-side) planes will improve their overall quality.

To make sure you’re working both legs equally, finish your one minute of working time by shuffling right for a certain period of time and then left for the same amount of time.

To begin moving:

  1. To begin, place your feet shoulder-width apart, bend your knees and hips slightly to keep your posture forward, and place your arms comfortably in front of you.
  2. Your body should move to the right by shifting your weight to the right, picking up your right foot, and pushing off from your left foot. This movement should be performed as fast as possible without sacrificing form.
  3. Put your feet back together and repeat, using your left foot to propel yourself forward as you continue to “shuffle” to the right.

6. Reverse-lunge front kick

It’s a combination move that will burn you. It is advised that you divide the minute in half, lunging with your right leg for thirty seconds and your left leg for the remaining thirty seconds.

To begin moving:

  1. Place your feet shoulder-width apart, and hold your arms at chest level with them bent.
  2. Step back into a reverse lunge as you start by kicking your right leg straight out in front of you.
  3. After getting to your feet, perform another kick and a reverse lunge.

Things to consider

It’s a good idea to warm up before you begin; a few minutes of stationary walking will help your heart rate increase.

You might be able to perform this program multiple times a week without experiencing any negative consequences because it has a low impact. Even better, you could use this as a lengthy warm-up before a strength-training session.

Depending on how fit you are, you can modify this exercise.

If you are unable to perform each action for a full minute without pausing, take breaks as necessary.

To keep getting results, you must step it up if the routine becomes too simple. To make each set more difficult, add time or a light dumbbell to each hand.

Listen to your body, as usual. If something feels off, stop.

If you want to try something different

Numerous low-impact cardio choices are concealed all around you. If you’re tired of walking or using the elliptical and are fed up with circuits, try one of these low-impact exercises:

  • Cycling/bike riding: This is one of the best high-intensity interval training (HIIT) exercises available that doesn’t require the use of weights.
  • Rollerblading: Tone your legs while skating with as little joint stress as possible. Bonus? It is a lot of fun.
  • Rowing: Use a rowing machine to increase your strength and cardiovascular capacity.
  • Swimming: Given the buoyancy of water, this full-body exercise is arguably the best for joints.
  • TRX: TRX activities relieve some of the strain on your joints by using suspension cables, particularly for lower-body exercises.
